In writing my letter to Elon Musk a few weeks ago, I knew very little about the concrete actions undertaken by so few for so many of them. Tesla is a dream – the dream of an extraordinary electric vehicle that everyone wants to own, the dream of an out of the ordinary leader, Elon Musk, whom everyone wants to follow, and the dream of a lifetime. a gigafactory that every country wants to attract. It now seems that Poles around the world are joining forces to prevent Elon from committing a serious mistake by going elsewhere than Poland. Here is the story.
There is a Polish woman in America who is heavily involved in the space industry and rocket science. Ewa is a passionate investor in new technologies and an adventurer of space. Apparently, she had "access" to Elon during SpaceX rocket launches and she is determined to help Poland make the right launch.
Tesla Klub Polska is a Polish Pole who runs the most popular Facebook fan page here. Mariusz is a Tesla enthusiast and directs the fan page as a hobby. He knows more about Tesla than most people I know. Mariusz is in contact with Ewa and discusses after conversation. He suggests that he could help put the US team in touch with government authorities. He has prepared an extensive portfolio of information about Tesla, its activities, its CEO, its investment plans and its gigafactories. The file was forwarded to the Polish Minister of Investment and Economic Development, Jerzy Kwieciński.
What happens next is … not much. It's a bit of a classic, as it boils down to mutual discussions between the American partisan, Ewa, and the ministry regarding the terms and conditions of the cooperation. Being a patriot is one thing. Doing important work for the country is another and must be paid, and I mean well paid. The situation a month ago, when I learned that it was the first time, was that Poland had never been at stake for Elon and Tesla (something that I find hard to believe after my convincing letter to Elon) and that it would take a lot of effort and spirit to be allowed at the table. As far as we know, no one in Poland, other than crazy enthusiasts like Mariusz or myself, had ever contacted Tesla before the joint efforts of Mariusz and Ewa. Somehow disappointing. [Editor’s note: It was near the top of my list of question during the past two Tesla conference calls]
The good news is that the Polish government has finally understood how much the investment we are talking about and has prepared to enter the race. As we have apparently reached the level of involvement of the Prime Minister, it is likely that Poland will have at least the opportunity to present its project directly to Tesla. Not a place or time to repeat all the arguments I've mentioned before (index, index). I believe we are the best choice for Tesla for several reasons. However, what our government needs to understand is that competition is fierce – Germany is at stake as a country and several German states each have their own playing field, with Berlin at the top of its recent bid. Can we beat other competitors and take it away? Yes! The influential advocates in the United States and the authorities determined here in Poland must also believe it. By the way, I'm here to help you.
