NEW YORK – Shohei Ohtani is among the AL Rookie of the Year finalists, alongside two New York Yankees.

The American Association of Baseball Writers unveiled the finalists for its main awards on Monday night. The winners will be announced next week.

Ohtani thinks he's in a tight race with Yankees Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres after a historic first season with the Los Angeles Angels. The Japanese two-way sensation is the first player to hit 15 homers and beat 50 batters in one season. He joined Babe Ruth as the only player to hit 15 home runs and 50 shots.

The Boston Red Sox, World Series champions, may be waiting for more equipment. Mookie Betts is a finalist for AL MVP and Alex Cora is among the last three for AL Manager of the Year in his first season. Mike Trout of Los Angeles and Jose Ramirez of Cleveland are also finalists for AL MVP.

Christian Yelich of Milwaukee is the favorite of NL's most valuable player, and Nolan Arenado of Colorado and Javier Baez of Chicago were also the top winners in the polls.

The AL Cy Young Trophy will be played by Corey Kluber of Cleveland, Blake Snell of Tampa Bay and Justin Verlander of Houson, while Jacob de Grom des Mets, Aaron Nola of the Phillies and Max Scherzer of the Nationals are finalists.

Cora is joined by CEOs Kevin Cash of Tampa Bay and Bob Melvin of Oakland. The NL finalists are Bud Black, Rockies manager Craig Counsell of the Brewers and Brian Snitker of Atlanta.
