Gaiman and Pratchett had long planned to adapt their beloved novel to a film, but the project never materialized. In 2011, rumors were announcing a TV series, but Pratchett died tragically and Gaiman did not even want to consider going ahead without his 30 – year – old friend. Pratchett himself had urged him to reconsider his decision shortly before his death.
