On Friday night, Boring Company CEO Elon Musk tweeted images of his tunnel machine that appeared to be coming out of the earth in a cavernous hole, passers by the edge of the hole watching his head spinning.

The tunnel began in January 2017 at the SpaceX headquarters car park in Hawthorne, California. The tunnel seems to end with what the Boring Company calls "the O" Leary Station, located on a commercial lot that the Boring Company has purchased from Hawthorne. This location is close to the location for which The Boring Company recently received permission to build a tunnel entrance in a residential garage, but not the same.

The Hawthorne Tunnel is just a test tunnel for The Boring Company, which also plans to complete a second 3.6-mile one-way tunnel from the Los Angeles metro to the Dodger stadium. Eventually, the company wants to dig a tunnel in Chicago between O 'Hare International Airport and downtown.
