The child, who tested positive for influenza B virus, died during the week of September 30 – although confidentiality issues prevented officials from saying exactly where.

State epidemiologists said the victim had not been vaccinated and that she was healthy before contracting the flu.

Hillsborough County has witnessed two outbreaks of influenza or flu epidemic in schools during the first week of this season. But a health official confirmed that the death of this child was not in Hillsborough County.

The county has not seen any infant flu deaths so far this season. Last season, the county had one.
