GASTONIA, NC (FOX 46 WJZY / AP) – Maddox Ritch, a 6-year-old boy who disappeared from a Gastonia park, was found dead after a long search.
According to an obituary, a visit for Maddox Ritch will take place Thursday at a funeral home in Huntersville, followed by a funeral service the next day. The funeral will be private.
Ian Ritch, Maddox's father, told the authorities that the boy had run away while a friend and he were walking to Rankin Lake Park, Gastonia, on September 22nd. Ritch said he could not have his feet due to diabetes.

Gastonia Police Department. said the research discovered the body around 1 pm on Sept. 27 off Marietta Street and the old Dallas Expressway.
"From then on, and for the rest of my life, I will live with the guilt of not being there to save my son, the most important person in my life, so that everyone can return to their normal lives. Never be the same man again, I will be a broken man forever and forever until I take my last breath, "Ritch wrote in an emotional message on Facebook.
The body that is believed to be Maddox was found in a creek just over a mile east of the park after days of searching.
He was taken to the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. FOX 46 will provide the information of this autopsy as soon as it is available.
The Gastonia Police Service continues to ask those who may be in the park on Saturday, September 22, to contact them. The investigation is underway.
