Mumbai: The state and central government on Monday set targets to eliminate measles and fight against rubella and congenital rubella syndrome by 2020.

A six-week vaccination campaign against measles and rubella for children aged 9 months to 15 years will begin Tuesday in that state, said State Health Minister Deepak Sawant.

A target is set to provide this vaccine to 3.38 crore children. The health department is ready to reach the 95% vaccination goal. This vaccine is safe and the Minister of Health has called on wardens to vaccinate their pupils.

Mr Sawant said: "Even if the vaccine has already been given to children, they have to be vaccinated again for extra protection."

He further added: "In the first phase of this campaign, the program will be implemented in all schools of the state and the Anganwadis resort to outsourcing. In recent weeks, unvaccinated children will be covered. "

The measles and rubella vaccine has been used in 149 countries for 40 years. Adequate training is given to ANM, ASHA and Anganwadi Sevikas to carry out this campaign.
