The Grinch is a modernized version of Dr. Seuss' classic, with some convincing adjustments to the story and characters for a lot of family fun.

Dr. Seuss How the Grinch stole Christmas is a classic holiday storybook that has been adapted to animation and animation media since its first publication in 1957. It was the animated television series of 1966 with a narrative of Boris Karloff and the first rendition from "You're A Mean One Mr Grinch" sung by Thurl Ravenscroft with the words of Dr. Seuss himself. Then, of course, Ron Howard brought the Grinch to the real animation in 2000 with Jim Carrey How the Grinch stole Christmas. Now, Illumination Entertainment returns the average green creature to the animation with their title more simply The grinch. The grinch is a modernized version of Dr. Seuss classic, with some convincing modifications of the story and characters, for a great family fun.

The grinch Follows the classic story of Dr. Seuss' original book, narrated by Pharrell Williams, portraying the main character (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch) as a disgusting creature who lives alone – with the exception of his faithful dog Max – hidden in Mount Crumpit. Whosville is in the valley, a small festive village known for its love of Christmas and all that comes with its holidays: decorations, food and especially gifts. However, when Grinch crosses the path of the young Cindy Lou Who (Cameron Seely), he embarks on the path that will bring this story to the same conclusion as in Dr. Seuss' classic.

That year, the Grinch learns from Bricklebaum (Kenan Thompson) – a particularly happy guy who thinks he is Grinch's best friend – that Whosville wants to make their Christmas party three times bigger. Following a trauma from his childhood, the Grinch hates everything Christmas has to live and, after a tree lighting ceremony that reminds him of his trauma, he swears to steal the holidays to the too festive inhabitants of Whosville. Meanwhile, Cindy Lou, the daughter of the overworked single mom Donna Lou Who (Rashida Jones), plots to capture Santa so he can ask for a very special wish. While Cindy Lou and the Grinchs are developing their respective Christmas projects, they do not realize that their paths will overlap and that they will inevitably change everyone's lives – for the better.

The grinch was co-directed by Scott Mosier (Eddie's life coach) and Yarrow Cheney (The secret life of pets) drawn from a screenplay by Michael LeSieur (Keeping pace with the Jones) and Tommy Swerdlow (Cool runnings, snow dogs). 3D computer animation of The grinch is typical of all Illumination films, that is to say that it brings a lot of texture to the story. Not only is the décor of Whosville richly animated – with beautiful three-dimensional architecture and realistic cuisine that will delight viewers in search of Christmas cookies – but the characters are interpreted in an incredibly thoughtful way, no more than the Grinch himself. From the snow stuck in the fur of his green-fur booties to the fur blowing in the wind on the summit of Mount Crumpit, the animation of the main character helps the viewer to immerse themselves more deeply in The grinch. This is far from the 2D animation of the special show "66", but it is more in line with modern animation styles and fits perfectly with Illumination methods in particular.

As for the modernized history of The grinchit certainly works in pop culture today. Single parent families are sufficiently common now that the film has every interest in portraying Cindy Lou as the daughter of a single mother and explaining how it would affect her character. Certainly, the original story does not give Cindy Lou a lot of character, apart from portraying her as a young girl who manages to break into Grinch with her kindness. From illumination The grinch develops this character trait in a way that rooted it in a more modern family situation, while changing the effects of his kindness – here, it is an inherent part and a learned part of his mother – which influences the Grinch. Certainly, making Cindy Lou the daughter of a single mother is the kind of superficial change that prevails in the modern reinvention of classic stories (like girls are interesting to STEM), but this aspect his character is deeply rooted in the story of Cindy Lou. so that he becomes the driving force of all his bow. Therefore, The grinch gains its modernized aspects through its history.

Similarly, Grinch's own arc differs, in some respects, from what was presented earlier by the adaptations of Mr. Seuss' story. Although he is still a creature whose heart is too small, Grinch of Cumberbatch is a more empathic character. This is not an intrinsically evil creature that hates the joy of Christmas, or a Who who does not fit the typical mold and who is ostracized because of it. This Grinch is a lonely creature who rejects others before he can be rejected by them; it is someone who is isolated to avoid the risk of being left alone by others. As a result, the story is slightly different to account for the slight changes made to the Grinch character. This Grinch needs to learn a more explicit lesson about how Christmas reunites loved ones – friends and relatives, not just blood relatives – to vacation with each other. In this theme too The grinch Young viewers have a more modern message: holidays are not about family, but about being with those you love, whoever they are.

In the end, the changes made to the story and the characters of Illumination The grinch work to distinguish the film from adaptations in the history of Dr. Seuss who preceded it. Certainly, it does not have the campy aspect of Carrey's performance in Howard's real action movie, nor the classic style of "You're a mean Mr Grinch" (here, the song is performed by Tyler, the creator). But the modernizations of The grinch will undoubtedly work for many members of the audience – although, perhaps, some aspects more than others Cumberbatch is a new Grinch for a new generation, working as well in the heart-felt moments as in the most humorous gags. And Max, with Fred Reindeer, are scene thieves, bringing family fun to The grinch to go with his warm heartwarming message about the holiday friendliness.

The grinch This film may not be necessary, but fans of Dr. Seuss' story or holiday movies in general will find their happiness in this new animated transcript. Plus, with a variety of family friendly jokes, The grinch There is no doubt that the film will entertain viewers, young and old alike, although the 90-minute expansion of the film will last for the third act of the film. It may not be worthwhile to see in IMAX, but The grinch provides rich visuals that will also capture the eye of all moviegoers. The grinch is a holiday fun for the whole family, adapting a classic story with a new twist that makes it an absolutely compelling filming experience.
