Elon Musk says the first tunnel is "almost finished".

By posting on Twitter on Sunday night, the founder and CEO of Boring Company announced that the first test tunnel of Los Angeles' ambitious high-speed public transit project will be open to public traffic on December 11th.

The first LA tunnel, which will mainly serve to transport pedestrians and cyclists, was officially completed in May, after permission to dig was granted last August.

Musk has already announced that the service would apparently cost passengers only $ 1 to board shuttles in the city during its official launch.

On Sunday, the CEO tweeted that the opening evening of the test tunnel will be held on December 10 with free attractions for the public the next day, starting from the headquarters near SpaceX in Hawthorne, California.

Where does the tunnel go? According to the Boring Company's website, it passes from SpaceX's parking lot to the east of Crenshaw Boulevard and south of 120th Street, then turns west under 120th Street and stays underground along from 120th Street for 3 km.

According to the CEO, the maximum speed in the tunnel will be 250 km / h.

Musk is a bit famous for missed deadlines. But guys, December 10th is apparently the date at which it will actually start, real life.

By the way, Musk also got permission from Maryland officials for its Boring Company to build a 10-mile tunnel into the state last year. It will be the first part of the hyperloop envisaged by Musk to transport people underground between New York and Washington, D.C. in just 29 minutes.

In June, Musk also won an offer for the construction of a high-speed train linking Chicago's O 'Hare International Airport to downtown. The new railway line, or Chicago Express Loop, will make 12-minute trips in electric vehicles called "skates", from new airport terminals to the super-station of downtown Block 37.

Now, who wants to queue for a free ride? Three words: arrive early.

UPDATE: October 22, 2018, 17:39 AEDT An earlier version of this article used the word "hyperloop" to describe the project, whereas in reality it was a test tunnel for the Boring urban loop project. The text of the article has been updated to reflect this.
