The hot spring of Yellowstone, in prolonged dormancy, breaks out

A hot spring near Old Faithful, in Yellowstone National Park, has broken out for the fourth time in the past 60 years, said Thursday a park official.

Last spring, Yellowstone's Geyser Hill rose from dormancy on Saturday to spewing steam and water between 20 and 30 feet in height, a height never recorded since 1957, said the spokesperson for Neal Herbert Park. Ear Spring, named for its resemblance to the shape of a human ear, is one of dozens of geysers, pools and hot springs in the Upper Geyser Basin of Yellowstone, among the main attractions of the famous Old Faithful. It broke in 2004.

The eruption is part of the new spa activities observed in recent days on Geyser Hill, just across the Firehole River at Old Faithful.

The activity includes new erupting vents and surface fractures and has led park officials to close a walk in the famous Upper Geyser Basin to prevent people from being injured by splashing water. # 39; water.

The Yellowstone thermal basins sometimes undergo significant changes in a short time, but new eruptions are not a sign of impending volcanic activity, Herbert said. Changes are continuing and could lead to new or different closures in the basin, he said.

"He's still moving," said Herbert. "There is still water flowing in new places and some of the sources that had been dormant have burst almost constantly."

Ear Spring is not the first inactive geyser to come alive this year. In March, the largest active geyser in the world launched the first of a series of eruptions for the first time since 2014.

Eruptions of the Steamboat geyser can reach heights of 300 to 400 feet, compared to the average of 130 feet of Old Faithful.
