The Hurricanes unveiled the Hartford Whalers returns; people are crazy online

Connecticut may not even be a top 40 state in this great country. But Thursday, the Carolina Hurricanes have decided to claim one of the few good things to come out of the least favorite suburb of the United States, New York; the amazing uniforms of the late Hartford Whalers.

There are two ways to look at this movement. The sensible reaction would be to see this as a tribute to a World Hockey Association tent and a franchise that has spent nearly two decades in the NHL. Of course, Greensboro (and then Raleigh) moved a New England team to bring hockey south, but that was more than 20 years ago, so … no grudge, right?

The other option is to attack the Hurricanes 'decision to wear the Whalers' corpse in a cosplay act in the mid-1990s.

Whalers fans would be unhappy with the unveiling. After all, the list of good things to get out of Connecticut looks like this:

  1. Logo of whalers / uniforms
  2. Stuffed cheese burgers
  3. Surprisingly legitimate pizza
  4. End of list

the whalers The hurricanes are even daring enough to wear the jerseys for two games against the Boston Bruins – the franchise to which many Hartford fans were forced to turn when they were deprived of hockey in their local market (and they had plenty of to do outside getting stuck in traffic on Merritt Drive.

But if seeing a southern team wearing the whale tail remains a sore point, remember: the Carolina Hurricanes have been a longer NHL team than the Hartford Whalers.

In addition, the franchise played its first two seasons in Boston.
