The Hyperloop capsule is full size and ultra-fast

(CNN) – A new full-size Hyperloop capsule designed to carry passengers 1,000 kilometers to the hour (620 mph) was unveiled on Tuesday, offering insights into what the future of travel might be.

Hyperloop is the state-of-the-art megafast transport technology being considered for the first time by controversial business magnate Elon Musk. It is designed to transport people through low pressure steel tubes at a speed corresponding to that of a passenger plane.

Several companies are now competing to be the first to implement the Hyperloop concept. Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, a young American company with no connection to Musk, hopes that its new life-size prototype prototype will give it a head start.

The elegant capsule was unveiled in Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain, near where it was built in the aerospace facility of Airificial, partner of HyperloopTT.

Considered "a plane without wings", the goal of Hyperloop is to permanently disrupt the way we travel long distances. Several Hyperloop routes are currently being developed in countries such as China, the United Arab Emirates, Spain and France.

This new Hyperloop capsule, dubbed "Quintero One", is made of a double layer intelligent composite material designed to be extremely durable.

The aerodynamic exterior of the capsule was created by the design consultant PriestmanGoode. The interior has not been completed yet.

From a length of 32 meters (105 feet), the capsule would be part of a longer train that could very well accelerate across the country in record time. A trip from Los Angeles to Las Vegas takes only 20 minutes.

Once the final touches are complete, the capsule will be tested on a Hyperloop test track.

To what extent is it about to become a viable transportation option? According to the team HyperloopTT, it is imminent, even if there are currently only test tracks under development.

"In 2019, this capsule will be fully optimized and ready to accommodate passengers," confirmed Bibop Gresta, president and co-founder of HyperloopTT, in a statement.

Another start-up, Virgin Hyperloop One, built a large-scale hyperloop passenger pod in 2017, dubbed XP-1, which has already been tested on its runway in the Nevada desert and has reached a speed of 387 km. h.

Security concerns

In response to safety concerns, the HyperloopTT team emphasized the safety of the capsule, with a focus on the new material from which it is made and the protective double layer.

"Today we unveiled a new type of transport ship built with a high percentage of composite, making the Hyperloop capsule the safest transportation vehicle in the world," said Rafael Contreras, co-founder and president. of the society.

"In just five years, we have solved and improved all the technology needed for Hyperloop with our new levitation system, vacuum pumps, batteries and smart composites," said CEO Dirk Ahlborn. "This capsule will be part of one of the most efficient transportation systems ever designed."
