A massive influx of about 7,000 American soldiers completely dried up all the bars of the Icelandic capital.
The thirsty soldiers, there for an exercise, have certainly exercised their weapons.
Most pubs and bars in the capital, Reykjavík, said they ran out of beer on weekends, serving seafarers and sailors, although breweries sent extra supplies.
They were in the port taking part in a NATO military exercise called Trident Juncture.
Iceland Magazine reports that the Sæta Svínið restaurant, the American Bar and many other bars in the city center have all reported being intoxicated.
The local news site Vísir reports that the brewery Ölgerð Egils Skallagrímssonar, which makes the popular Gull, had to send emergency supplies to the bars.
According to Vísir sources, Americans preferred local beers to imports and were quite willing to taste different micro-breweries as well as the most popular classic lagers.
Local blogger Eiríkur Jónsson has been talking to restaurateurs who have said they have never experienced a similar situation.

The owners of beer-run bars tried to solve the problem by borrowing from better-stocked bars.
And members of the Ölgerðin delivery team were called to help bar owners cope, but "they were fighting with overwhelming force".
One of the owners of Sæta Svínið told Vísir that the first soldiers arrived on Wednesday, the same night the first ships arrived at the port, and that they stayed until Sunday, the hour to which they left the port.
With most ships and sailors out of the harbor, downtown bar owners have managed to stock up after the weekend assault.
