Coast Guard and San Francisco port officials on Saturday investigated the damage to a Larkspur ferry that crashed on a San Francisco ferry terminal dock.

The workers along the waterfront jetty were serving a busy crowd on Friday afternoon when they saw the ferry barrel heading towards the wharf at around 2:30 pm, said Cheryl McKeon, Book Passage's director.

McKeon, 70, stood behind the counter when she saw the ferry quickly approaching the dock in pouring rain. She usually loves watching the ferries pass by the picturesque Bay Bridge Bridge, away from her store, but she said something was different this time.

"I saw it coming in that direction and then it was parallel to the building, which seemed odd," McKeon said Saturday, showing the window. "I said, it's wrong, and we rushed to the window, and then we heard the crash.

Michael Wilson, 63, was serving vegan donuts at a booth inside the Ferry Building when he saw the ferry approaching the dock, moving faster than during his six years of work in the building.

He ran quickly down the hall and onto the wharf.

"I wanted to see if anyone was hurt," Wilson said. "The boat was pushed on the dock. It was just crumpled.

One of the boat workers had a hip contusion and one passenger had a backache, but no major injuries were reported.
