Now, where, where have I ever seen this?
Last night on Instagram, Jon Favreau, executive producer and writer of The mandalorian, the next Star wars The live TV show, took a look at his Instagram account, one that gives a glimpse of production, while being very familiar to a certain type of fan.
That, friends, is known (according to Wookieepedia, and it almost certainly includes non-canonical information at this point) of an Amban pulse-phase blaster, a neat medium-range weapon with a prodigal object at the end. And, depending on the promotional image we already have, this could be the main weapon of the mysterious star of the series.
If you feel like you've seen it before, that's the case. It was in the Star Wars Special. Specifically, it was in the animated segment, "The Story of the Faithful Wookiee," which featured Boba Fett in a delightfully quirky costume. Here is what the weapon looked like in 1978:
