California has long been a place where the government has attempted to influence the quality of life by enacting a ban or mandatory adoption of it.
Now, a mayor of Southern California says he wants to ban ties. the workplace, claiming that the fashion accessory restricts blood flow to the brain.
R. Rex Parris, Mayor of Lancaster, said he conceived of the idea after reading a science blog that claimed ties limited 7.5 percent of blood to the brain, reported the Los Angeles Times
"I pass many hours each week on an elliptical trainer or a bike just to increase blood flow to my brain, and it sits every morning when I put on a tie that I decrease, "said Parris.
Mayor's proposal comes that the presence of the tie in American companies is decreasing.In 2015, a human rights commission in New York City said that convincing men had to wear skirts because of their sex
"I do not think it is appropriate today in America to have something done known to be detrimental to your health. Especially if it's based on gender, "said Parris.
But a ban on dress codes, especially for private businesses, would likely face legal problems." Michael Colantuono, a city lawyer, said stated that the move would be unprecedented.
Parris ran the idea by the city attorney at a City Council meeting on Tuesday, the Orange County Register reported. To approve the measure, the city would be required to prove that links are detrimental to public health.
"I know I'm going out on a ledge, but I live my life on ledges," Parris said. "We're interested in going into a positive direction until we are arrested. "
But Parris, a litigator established over 30 years ago, said that he has not yet stopped wearing ties completely.
