Health officials in New Jersey confirmed four cases of measles in Lakewood and said they were testing two other people with symptoms of the disease.
The state health department sees this as an epidemic.
The first case, reported to the Department of Health on October 26, concerned a person who had traveled to Israel and contracted the disease in that country.
According to officials, three people in New Jersey contracted the disease after being exposed to the traveler. Infected persons may have exposed others to the disease while they were in Lakewood between October 25 and October 31.
The first infected person visited the following sites in Lakewood:
- Schul Satmar, 405 Forest Ave. October 13 to 21 from 1 to 4 pm daily.
- Eat a Pita, 116 Clifton Ave. October 15 between 7 pm and 10 am
- CHEMED Health Center, 1771 Madison Ave. October 17th between 3pm and 6pm and October 18th between 10:45 am and 1:30 pm
Dan Regenye, spokesman for the Ocean County Health Department, said officials were looking at two other people "with symptoms such as fever," but that these cases had not yet confirmed Friday afternoon.
Anyone who thinks they have been exposed to the disease should call a health care provider before going to a doctor's office or an emergency department so that special arrangements can be made for a patient. Evaluation. This will also protect other people and medical staff from possible infection.
Measles is a very contagious disease. Symptoms include rash, high fever, coughing, runny nose and red, watery eyes.
