A large rock used as a barn door booty for decades has been revealed as a meteorite worth up to $ 100,000. The rock was found in the 1930s on a Michigan farm where it was used as a doorstop. Space rock has continued to do this work for decades, having only recently been identified as something very unique and valuable.
The discovery was recently detailed by Central Michigan University, where Mona Sirbescu, professor of geology, was invited to take a look at the unusual stone weighing 20 kg. According to Sirbescu, he has already been asked to examine potential meteorites, but no one has ever presented with such a meteorite in 18 years.
All this changed when an unnamed man introduced the gigantic space space presented in the video above. "I could tell right away that it was something special," Sirbescu said in a statement issued by the university. In the end, it is the 6th largest meteorite ever found and identified in Michigan.
The person who brought the meteorite for identification chose to remain anonymous, but shared the story of the discovery. According to the university, the former owner of the farm had claimed that the stone was a meteorite, claiming that he and his father had seen it crush on the property one night in the 1930s.
The rock would make a big noise by hitting the ground, creating a crater. The farmer and his father recovered it in the morning, digging it free – it would appear that it is still warm to the touch when it has been recovered. He became part of the farm after that, serving humble door-to-door work.
