The 1 train is complete again.

Saturday afternoon, the subway station of the World Trade Center has reopened. It was destroyed during the attacks and it had to be rebuilt.

The MTA project began in 2015 when the port authority returned the hull of the station after major reconstruction projects were completed.

It will be known as WTC-Cortlandt Street Station.

The new station is fully accessible and has fewer columns to facilitate the flow of customers. Transit officials describe it as "tempered by air to reduce ambient temperatures on hot days."

"The name of the station refers to its location on the World Trade Center site and its heritage under Cortlandt Street, which existed above the station when the 1st line was opened in July 1918," said the MTA in a statement sent by email.

Officials attended a Saturday event to mark the opening.

A new mosaic was created by the artist Ann Hamilton.

The words of the Declaration of Independence and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations of 1948 are written on the walls of the metro.
