The Miami Marlins will confirm the signatures of highly esteemed Cuban hopefuls Victor Victor Mesa and his brother Victor Mesa Jr. on Monday, according to several reports.
As El Nuevo Herald reported for the first time, citing a source, Victor Victor Mesa would receive a signing bonus of over $ 4 million, while Victor Mesa Jr. would receive a bonus close to $ 1 million. Both players are outside fields.
The Marlins announced Saturday a press conference for Monday morning, but the team did not provide any details other than that CEO, Derek Jeter, and baseball president Mike Hill, would be present.
Victor Victor Mesa, 22, best international free player, started playing in the best Cuban league at 16. His 17-year-old brother is a striker who has played for the Cuban national team aged 18 and under. Both left Cuba last spring to pursue a career in the major leagues.
El Nuevo Herald also announced that pitcher Sandy Gaston, who had worked for scouts alongside the Mesa brothers earlier this month, was likely to sign in Baltimore or Tampa Bay.
Associated Press contributed to this report.
