A millionaire would have beaten his girlfriend in a furious fury because he thought that a picture that she put on Instagram was showing too much cleavage.
Erick Bretz, 25, also reportedly tried to strangle Melissa Gentz, 22, after apparently losing her temper in her apartment.
Disturbing photos that Melissa shared on Instagram show her bruised left eye and cutting her face.
The student claims to have been injured after being "attacked by Bretz" on Sept. 23 in Tampa, Florida.
Dozens of celebrities have shared the photos since. Many are Brazilian, since Melissa and Bretz are from the country.
Melissa also shared audio recordings, allegedly captured during the violence.
In Portuguese, we hear the following shouting: "You do not accept the man who has more power than you.
"You do not agree, you think you are the man of the relationship, but you are not, you are a woman, you see, you must accept that."
Bretz was arrested but has since pleaded not guilty to domestic battery torture by strangling and tampering with a witness, reports the Tampa Bay Times.
In court documents filed in the Hillsborough County Court, Gentz wrote that Bretz was a multimillionaire and had the resources to harm others. "
The couple was released three months before the arrest.
