The most shocking thing about 'The Walking Dead' of Last Night is not what you think

The dead who walk is back for its ninth season, and although the ratings are going down, the show itself is better than it has been in two and a half seasons.

I say this as one of the The walking Dead The fiercest critics over the years, so if I have good things to say, you know it has to be true.

In any case, the spoilers follow then read at your own risk.

I've already written a review of the episode of last night, "The Bridge", so if you want a full recap and some analysis, go read that here. TL version; DR: I really liked the episode, even if it was mostly about preparing the table for upcoming events. Nothing huge or exciting has happened.

Well, it's not quite true either. Aaron lost his arm in an abnormal accident. He was crushed by a log and Enid, a doctor in training, was forced to amputate without medication. Ouch.

But it was not the most shocking thing about last night's episode of The dead who walk.

No, the most shocking, surprising, amazing and amazing thing about "The Bridge" is the simple fact that there was nothing really stupid in this episode.

I do not remember the last time that an episode of The dead who walk did not include anything really stupid. Either a foolish dialogue (YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS) or a ridiculous character behavior (even last week's silly museum scene) or derisory close-ups, bad speeches, terrible fights, special effects hideous (that deer, my god) or another moment of gobsmacking stupidity meant to roll the eyes.

I could literally reread the last 35 to 40 reviews of this show and in each of them I would find a section in which I would declaim a horrible writing decision or whatever. Many of my critics of this show have been extremely critical for a very long time and almost every time I twist my hands and grit their teeth about the show's worst habits.

It was the lack of that kind of stupidity in season 3 of Fear the undead and the first two episodes of season 4 that have made me love this show more. Then, inexplicably, Fear started doing the same stupid shit that his parent show always pulls. I will never forgive this show for the waterfall with the truck to ethanol. It was a completely stupid level.

But last night's episode of The dead who walk had a smart dialogue, including the best lines of Negan ever. There was an interesting conflict, a good acting game and, surprisingly, no strange decisions and behaviors outside the character. Daryl is a real character now, and he has conversations with other characters! Everyone seems real and natural.

It's quite shocking, if you ask me. Fingers crossed hoping that the situation is moving in the right direction under the star of the star, Angela Kang. I am not ready to say that my hopes are high or that I trust myself, but I am pleasantly surprised.
