The man's brother at Colts Neck found dead with his wife and two children in a quadruple homicide perpetrated in their burning home on Tuesday was accused of burning his own house several hours earlier on the same day .
Paul Caneiro, 51, was arrested in Monmouth County Jail at Freehold on Wednesday morning on a charge of arson in the Township of Ocean, according to the prison records. .
Caneiro's brother, Keith, and his family were found dead on Tuesday in their Colts Neck estate, sources said. Keith Caneiro was found Tuesday afternoon, shot and wounded, but he did not seem to be self-inflicted outside his home. The sources had already told NJ Advance Media. The mansion was in flames when the authorities arrived around 12:45.
According to numerous police sources, Paul Caneiro was accused of attempting to intentionally set fire to his Tilton Drive residence in the Wayside neighborhood on Tuesday morning.
No charges were laid in the Colts fire or in the homicides of 50-year-old Keith Caneiro, his wife Jennifer Caneiro, 45, and two of their children. Jennifer Caneiro and the two children were found inside the vast $ 1.5 million mansion on Willow Brook Road.
At a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Monmouth County District Attorney Christopher Gramiccioni refused to disclose the names of the victims of the Colts Neck fire, while stating that two of the bodies found Inside the residence were children.
He added that the bodies inside had been "badly burned".
Gramiccioni said the detectives were following the information that the fire in the Township of Ocean might be related to the Colts Neck blaze.
Paul Caneiro lives in his Ocean Township residence with his wife, Susan.
Neighbors told NJ Advance Media that Paul Caneiro seemed visibly upset, with tears in his eyes, after the fire that broke out before dawn at his home.
The neighbors said that he remained on the scene until around noon. He and his wife did not go home Tuesday night.
The neighbors described the couple Ocean Township, who has two older children, friendly and helpful, and said that Paul Caneiro had been injured in a car accident in Asbury Park a few years ago.
Keith Caneiro is listed as the owner of the Square One Technology Companies and EcoStar Pest Management in Asbury Park. Both companies work with Paul Caneiro.
The two women grew up in Brooklyn before marrying women from Staten Island and moving to New Jersey.
The Monmouth County Attorney's office is scheduled to hold a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
