The airline Delta Air Lines on Monday presented its first Airbus A320 aircraft, which was thoroughly examined at the ceremony held at its headquarters in Atlanta.

Delta said its A220s could accommodate 109 passengers, including 12 in first class and 15 in the extra-legged economy section. The remaining 82 will be standard seats in coach class.

The first flight of Delta Air Lines on its brand new Airbus A220 will take place on January 31, when the airline will deploy the plane on its route connecting New York LaGuardia to Boston.

The Delta A220 show took place at a larger celebration during which the company celebrated the tenth anniversary of its merger with Northwest Airlines.

"By recalling our growth over the past 10 years since the Delta-Northwest merger, we are considering the complementary strengths of the two airlines to form a well-positioned combined company to continue leading the industry over the decades." to come, "said Gil West, Delta's chief operating officer, said in a statement. "In many ways, the A220 represents our ongoing work to make flying more enjoyable for everyone and represents the ultimate goals of our fleet strategy."

The A220, known as "Bombardier CSeries" until it is renamed in July, is likely to start flying for Delta in early 2019.

Delta's order for at least 75 planes put a life buoy at the then-troubled CSeries. Airbus has since taken a majority stake in the aircraft line, which precipitated the new denomination.

Delta will become the first US carrier to operate the A220 and the fourth in the world. Swiss International Air Lines, AirBaltic and Korean Air are already A220 customers.
