Meghan Markle's new home at Windsor Castle's Frogmore Cottage is rich in history – and connected with another American who married the British royal family.

Wallis Simpson – the US citizen who married King Edward VIII, forcing him to give up the throne after less than a year because his family (and Parliament) did not accept Simpson, the woman that he loved (and a divorced twice) as a queen – is buried next to her husband near the cottage in the royal cemetery.

Simpson, who will later become the Duchess of Windsor, will die in Paris in 1986, at the age of 89, nine years after her husband's rest. In spite of the scandal, Simpson brought the family – and a succession change – the father of Queen Elizabeth became the unexpected monarch and the princess of the time his heir – Queen Elizabeth joined the princes Philip, Prince Charles and Diana for the funeral at St. George's Chapel (where Prince Harry and Meghan were married in May). Members of the royal family also accompanied the casket to its burial place.

"A single crown of yellow and white lilies, which would come from the queen herself, rested on the coffin," according to the newspaper. New York Times. "Underneath was a plaque whose mere inscription," Wallis, the Duchess of Windsor 1896-1986, "signified the Queen's refusal to annul the decision of her father, King George VI, to deny the Duchess the HRH status – His Royal Highness.

Simpson and Edward are buried behind the mausoleum separating Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Three of Queen Victoria's children – Princess Helena, Prince Arthur and Princess Louise – are also buried, along with many other members of the Royal Family. The mausoleum of Queen Victoria's mother, the Duchess of Kent, is in the adjacent Frogmore Gardens.

Meghan and Harry, who are expecting their first child this spring, have announced plans to settle in the Frogmore Cottage in Windsor Castle and outside Kensington Palace, home to Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Just weeks after learning that the Royal Fab Four were planning to break their common "court", the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's offices announced Saturday that the couple had decided to do so. The news was first reported by Emily Andrews of The sun.

The new home of the royal couple, in which they will move "early next year", is a 10-bedroom cottage with lots of lush greenery surrounding the property.

The cottage will require renovations as it is currently divided into five units that can accommodate the palace staff. The sun reports that their updated residence will include a crib and space for a personal gym and yoga studio – which Meghan is known to be a big fan.

Windsor, located about 30 miles west of London, is a "special place" for the couple, said their spokesman, to the extent that it served as a setting for their wedding in May. Frogmore House, located near the couple's home, was the place where their wedding was held and where their engagement photos had been taken about a year ago.

"Windsor is a very special place for their Royal Highnesses and they are grateful that their official residence will be on the estate," the statement said. "The official offices of the Duke and Duchess will remain at Kensington Palace."
