EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Offensive lineman Patrick Omameh was eliminated on Saturday by the New York Giants. He started the season as a right guard of the team.
The right side from the Giants offensive line in the first week against the Jacksonville Jaguars has now been eliminated. The Giants gave up from the right tackle Ereck Flowers earlier this season.
Omameh was one of the great recruits of General Manager Dave Gettleman. With left tackle Nate Solder, the veteran guard was supposed to help stabilize the offensive line.
The giants signed a $ 15 million, three-year contract with Omameh earlier this year. But Omameh lost his job last month and became conspicuous after claiming that the former Los Angeles Rams goalkeeper had started guarding him, Jamon Brown, earlier in the week.
Brown or veteran John Greco will start the right guard Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers.
Omameh was guaranteed $ 5.5 million this post-season after behaving well enough for the Jaguars last season. The Giants were his fourth team in five years. They will now have to spend $ 3.5 million of dead money against next season's salary cap after releasing it the first year of his contract.
Omameh, 28, has played 60 career games with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Bears, Jaguars and Giants.
Quadree Henderson, wide receiver / kick kicker, is being added to the active list in place of Omameh. Henderson was raised and signed with the Giants' training team earlier this week.
