TOKYO – The oldest person in the world, a 117-year-old Japanese woman, died. Chiyo Miyako died Sunday, the prefectural government of Kanagawa, his home state south of Tokyo, confirmed on Friday.

Miyako, born May 2, 1901, became the oldest person in the world in April after Nabi Tajima of Kikai Island. South Japan died at the age of 117.

The Mayako family said that they called it "the goddess" and remembered her as a talkative person who was patient and kind to others, according to Guinness World Records who certified her title. Guinness said that Miyako enjoyed calligraphy, which she practiced until recently, and enjoyed eating sushi and eels.
