FLORENCE, Colorado (KKTV) – A memorial grows outside a bowling alley in Florence after the sudden death of its beloved owner.

The owner of Fremont Lanes in Florence was killed over the weekend after being trapped in a pine tree machine.

Police Chief Michael DeLaurentis said an employee found Ector Rodriguez, 65, after reviewing him Sunday afternoon.

"[He] was taking off a machine returning bowling, "said DeLaurentis. When she came back there, she found the owner … he was stuck inside this machine.

"She called 911 and officers from the Florence Police Department and the Florence Fire Department responded, but they were not able to resuscitate him at that time."

Police are still investigating Rodriguez's blocking, but DeLaurentis assumes that it was a malfunction of the machine.

"The machine, after what I remember and what I saw, goes down and down and puts the pin back in place, then goes back up, so something had to get stuck, this time we do not do not know if it went wrong or was in the wrong place when it came up and trapped it in this machine. "

Rodriguez was unconscious and no longer breathing when the first responders arrived and it was later confirmed that he had died on the scene. The tragedy left the community upset.

"It's going to be a big loss," said DeLaurentis. "I have spoken to Mr. Rodriguez many times, and I see him sitting on the bench outside the bowling alley and chatting with people who stopped in front of, and they were talking to him regularly. He was well known to him, the community loved everyone and opened his door, and you just wanted to come in. The bowling alley was open to just sit and chat with him and it was almost like a hair salon. "

An autopsy will be performed on Tuesday.
