An American Airlines pilot is congratulated online for his kind gesture after an unexpected flight.

Flight 2354 from Los Angeles to Dallas / Fort Worth was diverted to Wichita Falls, Texas because of extreme storms in North Texas, confirmed American Airlines at Fox News.

The plane was safely diverted to the regional airport on Thursday night. However, the next flight to Dallas / Fort Worth will not be until Friday morning.

Understanding the frustration of the 159 stranded passengers, Captain Jeff Raines took the initiative to make the most of an unfortunate situation.

Raines called the local John's Dad and placed an order for 40 pizzas to be delivered to the small airport.

In a video of the event, we can see the driver back and forth between the delivery vehicle and passengers waiting outside the terminal.

People in the video can be heard saying "What kind", on the selfless action of the pilot.

Raines, however, explained that he could not have done it without his crew.

"Thanks for the compliments, but it was an effort on the part of the team," Raines said in a statement on Facebook, in FOX6 reports.

"My first officer was on the phone with the crew / hotel office to arrange our outing and the hotels for the entire crew. The flight attendants piloted a cart on the aircraft serving water, juice and soft drinks to all passengers at the terminal. While the SPS Envoy's staff was preparing a bus, re-booked the flights and answered a host of questions from these passengers. Thank you all for your help – there is no "I" in TEAM, he continued.

American Airlines told Fox News that she was proud of the actions of her crew members.
