Plastic film stuck in overhead cables caused significant delays on the Amtrak and NJ Transit lines on Wednesday, which slowed runners down on one of the busiest travel days of the year.
"There was a plastic film in the catenary wires and we were holding trains until they were removed," said Amtrak spokesman Jason Abrams. in an email shortly after 18 hours. "The trains are now moving, but residual delays are to be expected."
The Northeast Corridor and Jersey North Shore services were initially suspended due to the Amtrak cabling problem near North Elizabeth, but resumed later with one hour delays, according to NJ Transit. .
One hour delays were also reported on the NJ Transit Raritan Valley line.
Amtrak reported delays on some of its trains near Metropark and Newark stops.

According to the transit agency, NJ Transit and private buses have graced their tickets and train tickets. PATH also honored train tickets and passes.
The accident delayed the runners on the eve of Thanksgiving, as dozens of people were traveling in the area by train.
NJ TRANSIT and Private Carrier buses offer train tickets and packages.
PATH will cross train and honor pass tickets at HOB, NPS and 33rd St.
