Meanwhile, sources with intimate knowledge of the investigation indicate to CBS 2 investigator Brad Edwards that the attack on Smollett was potentially orchestrated by the actor himself and implied two other men.
Chicago police call these reports unconfirmed.
"The interrogations will resume today with both people and their lawyer. Although we did not find any video documenting the alleged attack, there is nothing to indicate that it is a hoax. The alleged victim currently cooperates and continues to be treated as a victim and not as a suspect. For greater clarity, both interviewees are classified as potential suspects. The two men were seen on a surveillance video near where Smollett told the police that he had been attacked on January 29th. The suspects interrogated by the detectives in this case are brothers who worked for Empire with Smollett.
The police raided their home on Wednesday the same day at O'Hare International Airport as they were returning from a trip to Nigeria.
Gloria Schmidt, the lawyer representing these two men in the case, said that they were in custody at Detective Headquarters in the central area since Wednesday night.
"When they first learned about what had happened to her, they were horrified. It's someone they know. That's someone they've worked with, so they do not want anyone going through that, "Schmidt said.
Schmidt said the police had arrested his clients Wednesday night at the O & M customs. The two men were returning from a trip to Nigeria when police raided their family's home in the northern part of the country.
The photos of the raid show the punctured door, the objects thrown into the living room, the doors of the damaged rooms and the clothes thrown everywhere.
The police left a list of inventory. Items seized include a black mask hat, an Empire inscription, a phone, receipts, a red hat and bleach.
Smollett told the police that two men had attacked him at Streeterville around 2 am on January 29, while he was going home to his apartment. He said they had shouted racial and homophobic slurs, poured some sort of chemical on him, and even put a rope around his neck.
The actor and singer gave his first public account of the attack in an interview for Good Morning America.
"When the police arrived, I kept my clothes. I kept the rope, "said Smollett. "I mean, it was not like we were wrapped, but yes, it was because I wanted them to see. I wanted them to see what it was.
Smollett, 36, is black and openly gay.
Investigators said the alleged attack had not been recorded on video surveillance, but the police issued a grainy image of the two men who were in the area at the time of the facts.
