LYON, France (Reuters) – Lyon's airport halted its flights on Monday when a driver sued by police broke his car in a terminal and on a runway.
More than a dozen police cars and a helicopter chased the fugitive a distance from a highway before crossing the security gates of Lyon-Saint-Laurent International Airport. Exupéry.
"Pursued by the police, he hit the terminal 1 before reaching the area of the track," said the office of the prefect of government in a statement.
The car then crossed the area of the track before stopping on a rough terrain next to the tarmac. The intruder tried to escape on foot but was attacked by officers and arrested.
The driver's motive, whose identity has not yet been made public, was unclear, the source said.
The flights were stranded until further notice, the airport tweeted.
