INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Division 1 Women's Volleyball Committee announced the composition of the 64-team squad that will compete in the 2018 NCAA Division 1 Women's Volleyball Championship. Thirty-two conferences received an automatic qualification, while the remaining 32 positions were filled with large selections to complete the tranche.
Stanford won first place and will compete in the NCAA for the 38th time in a row. The Cardinal is one of only two programs to have participated in all NCAA DI women's volleyball tournaments since its inception in 1981.

Minnesota is the second seed followed by the number 3 Illinois. BYU won the fourth seed. The top 16 teams were ranked nationally and placed in four regions. According to the principles established in parentheses, the 16 best seeds were able to be housed. In addition, pairs of teams were determined by geographic proximity, except for teams from the same conference who were not paired with the first and second rounds.

The Pac-12 led all the conferences with eight teams selected in their league to participate in the championship tournament. The Big Ten conference was second with seven programs qualifying for the tournament. Penn State and Stanford are the only two teams to qualify for all 37 championship tournaments.

Six programs make their first appearance in the tournament: Bryant, eastern Michigan, the Gulf Coast of Florida, South Dakota, Syracuse and the Navy.
In the previous 37 years of the championship, 10 schools have won a national title, seven of which earned a place in this year's category.
The previous winners are Hawaii (1982, 1983, 1987), Nebraska (1995, 2000, 06, 15, 17), Southern California (1981, 2002, 03), Stanford (1992, 94, 96, 97, 2001, 04). , 16), Penn State (1999, 2007, 08, 09, 10, 13, 14), Texas (1988, 2012) and Washington (2005).

The first and second round matches will take place between November 29 and December 1 at 16 campus sites. The winning teams of both matches will play in the regional game on 7 and 8 December. The NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Regional Championship Series will be held at four non-predetermined campus sites. This announcement will be announced after the end of the match on December 1st. On each site, four teams will compete in a regional semi-final single elimination competition.
The regional winners will qualify for the national semifinals and Minnesota championship final on Dec. 13-15 at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The semi-final national games will be broadcast on ESPN and the championship game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
