The probe focuses on GM brake pumps

The US government is investigating over 100 complaints of poor brake performance from General Motors' 2.7 million large pickups and SUVs.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that a vacuum brake pump can deteriorate, resulting in increased braking effort and longer stopping distances. The agency has received 111 consumer complaints, including nine accidents and two injuries.

The survey covers Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups from 2014 to 2016. Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe vehicles, GMC Yukon SUVs and Cadillac Escalade are also involved.

The agency will determine how often the problem occurs and whether a reminder is needed. Any owner with braking performance issues should have them checked by a GM dealer or an independent repair shop, said a spokesman for GM.
