The Walker study asked for photos of 3600 penis of men aged 22 and older. Participants also had to measure their penis and answer questions. One question asked participants if they thought their penis size was above, below or below average.

While the study focused on the relationship between penis size and self-esteem, the photos were requested. Walker launched the study on June 18 and would have received a few hundred images by June 26.

Walker told the Springfield News-Leader that she was requesting photos via an online portal, hospitals, and nightclubs. so that no friend or colleague felt obligated to participate. "We do not recruit locally, I do not want there to be anything risky," Walker said at the exit. "You do not want there to be something embarrassing."

But two days after the publication of these statements, Walker announced that it would end the study. "I made this decision voluntarily," Walker said in a university press release. "I continue to believe that the relationship between penis size and self-esteem is an important site of scientific research, but public reaction to the project threatens the reliability of the responses to the survey. According to the University, all submitted penis photos were stored in a" secure search database "and have now been destroyed.

Before canceling the study, Walker shared some preliminary anecdotal observations with the Springfield News-Leader. "I can not tell you how many people submit measures and believe they are average but they are above average."

She said that most studies show that the average length is 5 inches to 5.6 inches.
