The Rehabilitation Service of Putnam Hospital Center will begin offering a tai chi prevention program for arthritis and falls by the end of September.

Tai Chi is a low-impact exercise that involves a series of movements, known as forms, performed in a slow and focused manner, combined with controlled breathing. Research has shown that tai chi is effective against arthritis and falls prevention because it improves mobility, balance and relaxation.

The program is taught by physiotherapists from the Putnam Hospital Center, certified by the Tai Chi Institute for Health. Tai Chi is suitable for adults with or without arthritis, rheumatic diseases or related musculoskeletal conditions, as well as for mild, moderate or severe joint involvement and back pain. Participants must be able to walk independently and follow the instructions.

There are 16 sessions that will take place from 13h to 14h. Wednesdays and Fridays from September 26 to November 16 at the Integrative Health Center, Suite 114, 670 Stoneleigh Ave. The cost of the program is $ 25.
