The Raiders can not even boast of their victory over the Cardinals

The Oakland Raiders are all in the tank.

Jon Gruden dismantled the team and plunged the franchise into the bustle in the name of rebuilding it to its old-fashioned image, avoiding veterans like Khalil Mack, Bruce Irvin and Amari Cooper for their locker and choice.

The results were spectacular. The Raiders stumbled on a 1-8 start and have their eyes on the first pick in the 2019 draft.

The Raiders on the track to take the first choice

Oakland had a golden opportunity on Sunday to put some distance between the Arizona Cardinals (2-7) and get away from the defeat when Gruden and quarterback Derek Carr were seen bickering on the sidelines.

Behind 21-20 in the fourth quarter, the defeat looked serious as Cardinals running back David Johnson crossed Oakland high school for a 57-yard touchdown with less than three minutes to go.

Alas, the score was canceled thanks to a penalty from Ricky Seals-Jones who put Arizona third and 26th. They did not convert and ended up losing 46 seconds in a situation that kills the clock and returned the ball to Oakland with 1:53 to go.

Raiders still have a shot to lose after the Cardinals come down

Control was still in the hands of the Raiders. All they had to do to lose, was to make unsubstantial attempts to advance the ball into the air, which would be real efforts to win the game.

But they have made critical efforts in the long run. Carr hit a few short passes on the drive that started from his own 20 that did not do much to move the ball towards the goal line. Until here everything is fine.

But when he fell back and threw a deep pass to Marcell Ateman, the Raiders moved the ball to Arizona 37 and threatened to rip the victory down.

That's exactly what they did. Two games and 20 yards later, and Oakland had the ball on hand to score a shot on goal with two seconds to go.

When Daniel Carlson threw the ball between the posts during a 35-meter attempt, the Raiders had taken a lead of 23-21 and the clock indicated zero.

Part of Gruden's plan?

The win put the Raiders in last place in the NFL with the Cardinals and 49ers with the Buffalo Bills 3-7 and the New York Jets on the heels.

What was a chance for the Raiders to take control of the first choice path has now become a dog fight.

But with the selection projects # 1 asking for a lot of money and limited space, this may be part of Gruden's master plan.
