Many people thought the Rams had a good chance to start 2-0, but few people expected Sean McVay's team to win decisively.
The Los Angeles Rams were everyone's favorite story in 2017. The attacking brain Sean McVay took over one of the worst NFL teams and turned them into NFC West champions. McVay and its company show no signs of slowing down in 2018.
In fact, there is a very good argument to make them even better this season. They left for a solid start to the season 2-0, but the fashion in which they won both matches is even more impressive. They beat Jon Gruden's Raiders in Week 1 and went on to win a 34-0 win over the Cardinals in the second week. No one has been able to touch the Rams this season.
In retrospect, no one should really be surprised. The team took bold steps during the off-season to ensure they added a significant talent to the training. Ndamukong Suh is not a perfect player, but he perfectly complements Aaron Donald in the middle of the Rams' defensive line.
The addition of Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib to the team's high school makes the team more difficult to score. None of these guys will win Mr. Congeniality in the locker room, but in terms of field skills, they are both Pro Bowl players.
On the other side of the ball, the idea that the Rams' attack could regress has never really made sense. The key elements of the team's attack are still young enough for their performances to be much more likely to progress than to regress over the coming seasons.
Todd Gurley, just 24, is just starting to race. He has four touchdowns in just two games this season. He rushed for over 100 yards in the first game and found some dirty dirt in the air. He was even more effective against the Cardinals when he scored three touchdowns on just 22 keys. The fact that Gurley is touching the ball less and finding more of the goal zone this season should be scary for the rest of the NFL.
Jared Goff is even younger and he managed to regain his place last season. He completed 42 of his 65 passes of the season for an impressive 577 yards. Some scouts claim that Goff's big numbers are just a product of McVay's innovative system and game calls, but no one is concerned about the Rams. The bottom line is that they will play the Pro Bowl of their quarter.
The Rams also have one of the most dangerous NFL receiver groups. Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp were great for this team last season. Then the front office went out and acquired Brandin Cooks during the off season. It was electric to start the season. Cooks already has 12 catches for 246 yards in the young season. He is only 24 years old. That means he will continue to grow with this young body for years.
You can not really know who is the best NFL team at the start of the season, but you can identify the teams that have everything you need to win the Super Bowl. The Rams are one of the teams that have the talent and leadership to win the Lombardi Trophy this season.
