MOSCOW, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) – The Russian space company Roscosmos said Tuesday that it had formed another commission to study in more detail the reasons for an air leak on the International Space Station (ISS).
The commission was formed by order of Roscosmos' CEO, Dmitry Rogozin, and will be headed by his first deputy, Nikolai Sevastyanov, said the state company in a statement.
The commission will analyze the information received during the first stage of the investigation, conducted by representatives of the manufacturer of the Soyuz MS-09 spacecraft, Energia Rocket and Space Corporation, and will establish new facts, ie he adds.
On August 30, ISS astronauts detected a minor air leak on the Russian Soyuz MS-09 satellite moored at the station, which they repaired the following day.
Last week, Energia's experts carried out a verification of similar spacecraft on Earth, after the elimination of the initial version of the damage caused by a meteorite.
The findings of the Energia commission were not made public, but last week the media quoted anonymous sources in the rocket and space industry claiming that the spacecraft could have been deliberately damaged.
Roscosmos reacted Wednesday with a statement claiming that "the publication of versions of the survey is a way to manipulate the information and influence the work of the representatives of the commission".
She called on Russian and foreign media to refrain from publishing reports based on anonymous sources of speculation before the official announcement of the survey results.
Roscosmos' statement on Tuesday did not say when the results would be announced.
The ISS crew currently has six members: three US astronauts, one German astronaut and two Russian cosmonauts.
