BOSTON (AP) – The Boston Red Sox have become the first major league team to claim a playoff spot this season and have won in the seventh round of Brock Holt, beating the Toronto Blue Jays 7- Tuesday. night.

The Astros have maintained a three-game lead over Oakland in West Africa.
Houston took a 5-0 lead on three homers in Jordan Zimmermann's first four innings and then had five unmarked innings from his pen.
Framber Valdez started with a one-point lead after allowing all four of Detroit's fourth innings, including a three-run run by JaCoby Jones. Will Harris (4-3) took the win in the fifth inning and three more followed before Roberto Osuna finished ninth for his 17th save on 18 occasions.
Zimmermann (7-7) allowed five runs and six hits in five innings. He walked one and took out three.
MARLINS 5, METS 3
NEW YORK (AP) – Jacob deGrom won his last defeat in a record season, being overtaken by Jose Urena of Miami.
DeGrom (8-9) conceded only Lewis Brinson's double in seven innings. The right handed three hits and eliminated nine players, his ERA in the major leagues having risen from 1.68 to 1.71. He held his opponent within four points for the 26th consecutive start – breaking a big championship mark set by King Cole in 1910 with the Chicago Cubs.
All the Mets could muster was the solo circuit of Michael Conforto with Urena (6-12) and Kevin Plawecki's shot against Drew Steckenrider (two points).
JT Riddle came off the bench and slammed into the right upper deck for his first fight against Miami since his return from a painful left wrist. After missing five games, Jedusor Riddle joined in eighth against Anthony Swarzak.
Brian Anderson had a RBI hat-trick and Derek Dietrich added a Robert Gsellman double in the ninth.
Urena allowed a course and four hits in 6 1/3 innings.
NATIONALS 3, PHILLIES 1, 1st match; NATIONALS 7, PHILLIES 6, 10 innings, 2nd match
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Juan Soto made a home run in the 10th inning, his second of the game, to lead the Washington Nationals to a 7-6 win over the Philadelphia Phillies and a 1-2 finish.
The Nationals rallied for three innings in the ninth round against Seranthony Dominguez to tie the game at 6-all. Soto, who shot a two-run run in the fourth inning, was able to catch Yacksel Rios (3-2) with a win in 10th place.
Greg Holland dropped the first batters in 10th place before passing the next two. The Netherlands forced Cesar Hernandez to leave the match for his third stop. Wander Suero (3-0) won.
In the first game, Spencer Kieboom hit his first home race after losing a tooth earlier in the day, with Erick Fedde (2-3) shooting a white ball in the sixth inning and the Nationals defeating the Phillies 3- 1.
The Phillies, who have played 15 games over .500 in early August and in the playoff race at NL, have lost four straight games and are 6-16 since August 18.
Phillies pitcher Nick Pivetta (7-12) was one of seven pitchers to open the scoring.
Fedde, making his second start since he missed two months with a painful right shoulder, threw a five-shot ball.
PADRES 2, MARINERS 1
SEATTLE (AP) – Wil Myers doubled the National Baseball League (RBI) double to save leader Edwin Diaz.
Diaz came in with the match tied at 1 and struggled without having a chance at his 55 th save. Diaz (0-4) gave points to Hunter Renfroe and Eric Hosmer. After a strike from Franmil Reyes, Myers jumped on the first pitch and made it into the left turn. Travis Jankowski easily scored in second place.
It was only the second run of the night, the Padres put several runners on the base, but they took advantage of their opportunity unlike the Mariners.

The starter from Atlanta eliminated seven players and finished with 108 shots. He was still hitting the 90 degrees on the radar gun in the last innings.
Foltynewicz took his first win since August 13 against Miami, ending a four-game winless streak.
Dansby Swanson added an RBI double to eighth overall for the NL East Braves, who scored 6 1/2 games in advance of the division's Phillies.
Ender Inciarte was sacrificed in the fourth and Culberson followed Ronald Acuna Jr.'s hat-trick in the fifth with his 11th home race. He replaced injured third baseman Johan Camargo, who came out with stiffness in the left groin.
Left-handed Andrew Suarez (6-11) conceded three runs and six hits in six innings.
DIAMONDBACKS 6, ROCKIES 3
DENVER (AP) – Ketel Marte has played four innings, including a hat-trick of two points to break a tie in the sixth inning, reliever Yoshihisa Hirano helped Arizona face a ninth inning for their first league win and the Diamondbacks moved closer to the NL West standings by beating Colorado.
The Diamondbacks have reduced their deficit in the division to 2 1/2 games. The Rockies retained a 1 1/2 advantage over the Los Angeles Dodgers, who lost for a second consecutive day in Cincinnati. Colorado pursues after its first NL West crown in the history of the franchise.
Marte also added a two-point single in the eighth end to win 6-3. He leads the league in triple with 11.
Zack Greinke (14-9) allowed two points in the first before taking his orders to allow three points in 6 2/3 innings.
Antonio Senzatela (4-6) conceded two points in the first and four innings in six innings.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – Josh Donaldson was eliminated in his debut in Cleveland, Edwin Encarnacion scored 30 homers for the seventh consecutive season and the Indians beat Tampa Bay.
Cleveland lowered its magic number to three for a third consecutive title of AL Central.
Acquired from Toronto on Aug. 31, Donaldson was 0 for 4 in his first major league game since May 28, a layoff caused by a stretched left calf. The MVP AL 2015 flew to the deep center and deep right, hit and landed in a forceout. The third-baseman made a clever hold on the back of the sixth inning of C.J. Cron.
Jose Ramirez went from third to second place and second baseman Jason Kipnis moved to the center.
Yan Gomes also drew and rookie Shane Bieber (10-3) eliminated a record of 11 goals in 6 2/3, three hits and three goals.
Tampa Bay broke its record of 12 home wins and lost for the fourth time in 21 games overall.
Gomes beat Tyler Glasnow (0-4) in the fifth inning and Encarnacion in sixth on seven in seven innings.
REDS 3, DODGERS 1
CINCINNATI (AP) – Former Dodgers prospect Brandon Dixon and Scott Schebler conceded the win, and Los Angeles fell for the second straight time in a loss to Cincinnati.
The defending United States champion Los Angeles is 0-6 against Cincinnati this season. After losing the first game of the 10-6 series against the Reds, the Dodgers started the first day and a half of the day behind Colorado, NL West leader, and two St. Louis games for the second Wild card of NL.
Dixon slammed the ball in the second and Schebler third to lead 2-0 against Hyun-Jin Ryu (4-3). Jose Peraza, another former Los Angeles prospect, had two hits.
The Gennett scooter made two hits, including a single in the fifth inning, and raised its leader average to .321. Gennett hits .727 (16 for 22) against the Dodgers this season.
Luis Castillo (9-12) allowed one run and four hits in 6 1/3 innings with nine strikeouts. Raisel Iglesias shot a ninth without a hit for his 26th stop on 30 occasions, completing a five-hit hitter.
Ryu (4-3) allowed eight hits in five innings.
ATHLETE 3, ORIOLES 2
BALTIMORE (AP) – Mike Fiers remained undefeated in an Oakland uniform, making six solid runs against Baltimore.
The Athletics won their fifth consecutive victory to improve their record to 33-15 since the All-Star break, the highest score of the majors during this period. Oakland holds the second place in the AL standings behind the Yankees.
Fiers (12-6), who was acquired from the Tigers on Aug. 6, allowed one run and four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. He is 5-0 in seven starts with the A and has won six best consecutive career decisions.
Jeurys Familia got a ninth place perfect for his 18th loss since his acquisition of the Mets on July 21st.
Stephen Piscotty was 3 for 4 – including a single RBI in a third round of three innings – for Oakland. He extended his streak of strikes to 12 games and led a run in six straight games.
Jonathan Villar drove in both Orioles with a circuit of Proud in the sixth and a single in the eighth.
Mike Wright (3-2) replaced Alex Cobb in the third period and was shot in the left foot by a sharp pitcher from Ramon Laureano, the second batter he faced. Matt Chapman followed with a double RBI, and Khris Davis and Piscotty led with singles.
CUBS 3, BREWERS 0
CHICAGO (AP) – Jose Quintana shot a shot from three strokes in the seventh inning, Victor Caratini scored two and Chicago resumed their two-game lead in NL Central.
Quintana continued his Masters of Milwaukee in a huge place for Chicago (84-60), improving to 6-2 with a 1.60 ERA in 10 career starts against the Brewers. The veteran on the left eliminated seven players and scored two goals in six and two-thirds in his second straight win over Jhoulys Chacin. He also won in Milwaukee last Wednesday.
Quintana (13-9) received a standing ovation from the crowd of 37,017, as he left with the bases charged after a replay that allowed Hernan Perez to win a singles match. Justin Wilson then eliminated Manny Pina on three shots, preserving Chicago's lead 2-0 and drawing another roar to Wrigley Field.
Jorge De La Rosa got a perfect eighth place and Pedro Strop finished the treble for his 13th stop in 17 chances.
Milwaukee (83-63) had won seven of eight games, including a 3-2 win in the first game of the series, which allowed the Chicago division to lead a match. Chacin (14-7) threw five rounds of a ball in one go, but a sloppy play in the second was found to be costly for the Brewers.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Brad Keller made seven inning for the fourth time in six starts, ahead of Kansas City after Chicago.
Whit Merrifield had two hits, two runs scored and scored two points for the Royals. He also stole two goals to increase his lead in the American League to 33 flights, including a 12th in the league.

ST. LOUIS (AP) – Cardinals rookie Tyler O'Neill hit a three-run homer in an eighth inning, Marcell Ozuna was third and Miles Mikolas scored seven solid innings to lift the Cardinals from St. Louis against the Pittsburgh Pirates 11- 5 on Tuesday night.
Mikolas (15-5) has dropped one run, five hits and one run by hitting seven. He dropped his ERA to 2.99 and earned his first victory in five starts against the Pirates this season. Mikolas was eliminated five times in a row, and the Cardinals improved their record to 21-8.
Ozuna hits .352 this season against Pittsburgh. He has 13 points against the pirates and 79 for the season.
Joe Musgrove (6-9) made six innings. He allowed four hits, four points and two ballads by hitting eight.
