ROCKFORD, IL (WIFR) – The Rockford Park District Council of Trustees has approved a lease agreement allowing Six Flags Entertainment Corporation to operate the Magic Waters Waterpark water park starting next spring.
The lease should be finalized and signed in the near future.
Park district officials said the board of directors and other authorities would be asked to vote on a property tax abatement in order to make the official agreement.
If finalized, Six Flags would begin managing the water park in 2019.
"By placing the Six Flags brand on this market, we anticipate a significant increase in tourism, which will have a significant economic impact on our community," said Jay Sandine, Rockford Park District Executive Director.
Magic Waters, a 42-acre water park, has been owned and operated by the Rockford Park District since 1988.
