The San Francisco 49ers apologize for leaving Colin Kaepernick out of the photo gallery

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The San Francisco 49ers apologized for initially leaving Colin Kaepernick out of a photo gallery celebrating the team's history against the Green Bay Packers.

The 49ers have posted dozens of photos on their website of past games against the Packers before the teams meet again Monday night, but at first did not include any Kaepernick members.

The team then added photos of Kaepernick. This is the first photo gallery that the 49ers have launched this year. photos of Kaepernick were featured in the seven galleries published on the team's website last year.

"Unfortunately, there were a handful of obvious deficiencies in this gallery posted by our website team and we appreciate that they are brought to our attention," the 49ers said in a statement. "The 49ers' organization has tremendous respect and gratitude for the contributions Colin has made to our team over the years."

Kaepernick set an NFL record for the quarterbacks by collecting 181 yards in a playoff win over Green Bay on January 12, 2013; racked up 413 yards in an opening win against the Packers in 2013; and led a winning campaign during a playoff game in Green Bay on January 5, 2014.

"We have good memories of these games and this should have been posted on our website," said the team. "This oversight does not properly reflect the appreciation that our property and this team have for Colin."

The 49ers supported Kaepernick in 2016 when he decided to kneel at the national anthem to protest social and racial injustices. It has also contributed a million dollars to programs for social equality.

Kaepernick gave up his contract in the next off-season when the 49ers announced his intention to cut him. Kaepernick has not been able to find another team to play in the past two seasons.

Coach Kyle Shanahan was questioned about the possibility of bringing back Kaepernick after the start of his quarter Jimmy Garoppolo was injured knee late in the season, but said that Kaepernick did not fit the team's offensive.

"I made this decision with the type of offense that we wanted to go with," said Shanahan on September 24th. "It's a bit like what I said last year, and it's kind of the same situation now … I always look into what style of offense."
