ISTANBUL (Reuters) – The Saudi prosecutor held a second round of talks with Turkish officials and went to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, where journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed there. has four weeks.
Khashoggi's assassination turned into a crisis for the world's leading oil exporter, who initially denied knowing or playing a role in his disappearance.
Prosecutor Saud Al Mojeb arrived in Istanbul on Sunday night and had talks Monday with the Istanbul Attorney General, a few days after he contradicted weeks of Saudi statements claiming that Khashoggi's murder was premeditated.
He met with Turkish prosecutor Irfan Fidan at the courthouse for the second time on Tuesday before going to the consulate, Turkish broadcaster NTV reported.
Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist and critic of de facto Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, was killed inside the consulate when he went there to search for documents.
The Saudi authorities first insisted that Khashoggi had left the compound on October 2 after completing his papers. Turkish officials, however, claimed to believe that he had been killed inside by a team sent from Saudi Arabia.
On Monday, Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu asked Riyadh to conclude the investigation as soon as possible.
"The whole truth must be revealed," he said. "We believe that Mujeb's visit is important for these truths to be revealed."
Turkey has requested the extradition of 18 suspects from Khashoggi's murder in a Turkish court, but Saudi Arabia said they would be tried in the kingdom.
