Police said the incident began around 3:40 pm, when a black Range Rover led authorities to sue Western Avenue, south of Santa Monica, and ended on Highway 101 southbound. The suspect exited the vehicle with a handgun and a shot involving an officer occurred. No officer was injured, police said.
The suspect was eventually found by a K-9 subway unit and detained with life-threatening injuries, the police said. The suspect's pistol was also found.
The LAPD tweeted that the authorities "were conducting a thorough investigation" that the highway was to remain closed from Western Avenues to Vermont.
We understand that this shooting involving officers in Hollywood has caused a considerable delay in road traffic, but your safety is still our top priority. We had a perimeter, which included the 101 before, in which we were looking for an armed and dangerous suspect.
