The Baraboo School District in Wisconsin apparently does not intend to punish the students who gave an apparent Nazi salute in a photo which became viral this month.
The school district administrator, Lori Mueller, sent a letter Wednesday via a student information system in which he was informed that the district had completed part of the photo survey, but that some " key details "were unclear. the Wisconsin State Journal reported.
"We can not know the intentions of those involved in the heart," she wrote. "In addition, due to student rights to the first amendment, the district is not able to punish students for their actions."
The picture, apparently taken before the prom of Baraboo High School last spring, captured dozens of students raising their arms in an apparent Sieg Heil, a gesture used to greet Nazi Germany.

After the photo became viral and was largely condemned, Mueller condemned the actions of the students:non-reflective educational values "of the school district and stated that he would pursue" all available and appropriate actions, including legal actions ".
She did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
