SEATTLE (AP) – The Sea-Tac airport allows visitors who are not booked on flights past the security and in the passenger-only areas for the first time in nearly two decades.

On Friday, the Seattle port launched the program that allows 50 visitors a day to pass the security to greet or leave their loved ones.

Officials say that the "SEA Visitor Pass" allows visitors who meet the requirements of the Transportation Security Administration to reach the doors of domestic travel.

According to the Seattle Times, the airport is one of the first in the country to welcome OK visitors to such areas since the suspension of this practice following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Seattle port officials said wait times for travelers attempting to pass the security check should not increase.
