A security star leaves football for his own safety
Kam Chancellor, an original Boomer legion and four-time Pro Bowler with the Seahawks, announced Sunday that he is retiring for reasons of health.
Chancellor, 30, has been a standout contender since 2010, but played in just nine games last year before seriously injured his neck while trying to tackle. The Seahawks and Chancellor were vague with the details of the neck injury, but it cost the Chancellor his season and now his career.
In a Twitter release the Chancellor mentions the many injuries he suffered. he whom he can not ignore. He suggested that he was likely to be paralyzed if he tried to play through him.
"When the doctors told me what was happening in November, I could feel my heart fall to my stomach," wrote the Chancellor. "The stiffness in my neck and the images I've seen have had at one of my lowest points as a man, because football is all that I knew apart from serving the Lord, to distance myself from the game by choice is one thing, to get away from the game because of the risk of paralysis is another.
"My last test was no. showed no cure.I put all my blood, swear, and tears in this game. "
Chancellor left the game with 12 career steals and 434 tackles.
"P.S. Pray for your boy," he wrote. "I have no idea how these head injuries will go after the game, what I know is that my God is stronger, peace and love."
