The Senior Advisor to the Chair of the Deputy Chiefs Committee has been suspended pending an investigation

A US official told ABC News that Troxell was suspended Wednesday.

Originally, he was supposed to travel with Dunford to Europe this week, but he did not end up accompanying him on the trip because of the investigation, the official said.

As a senior enlisted advisor, Troxell advises and advises the President on the needs of military members enlisted in the US Armed Forces. As such, he and his predecessors regularly visit bases around the world to meet with enlisted service members.

It's unclear if the suspension is tied to a Facebook posting that he made earlier this year. In January, a Facebook post written by Troxell made eyebrow after asking troops to beat ISIS fighters with a shovel if they did not surrender.

"If they surrender, we will protect them in their detention cell, provide them with a meal, a bed and due process," Troxell wrote. "HOWEVER, if they choose not to surrender, we will kill them with extreme prejudices, whether through the security forces, throwing bombs or hitting them to death with our retrenchment tools. "

A retrenchment tool is a shovel-shaped folding tool often carried by military personnel.

When ABC News asked him about the job, Troxell spokesperson, Master Sgt.
