Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, elected MP in New York, won her seat in the US House of Representatives because of all the doors she has hit.

And she has her shoes to prove it.

The first pair of shoes that the 29-year-old woman wears during the election campaign is marking the history of fashion as part of an exhibition on the Cornell Costume Collection titled "Women Empoered : Fashions from the Frontline ".

The exhibition, which will debut on December 6, calls on women to submit clothes that have strengthened them in the past. Other items include necklaces of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a dress of Olivia suffrage activist "Livy" Langdon, a skirt owned by Janet Reno and the inaugural costume of Texas Governor Ann Richards , among others.

Last June, Ocasio-Cortez tweeted a photo of shoes – battered, worn and with holes in soles.

"This is my first pair of country shoes" she wrote. "I knocked on the doors until rain water passed through my soles, respect the stress, we won (because) we exceeded the competition."
"These shoes represent the hard work, dedication, determination and commitment of the youngest woman elected to Congress," said the Cornell Costume Collection.
