It would not be a season of The punisher without a massive shootout … or two. One of these scenes in the second season of The punisher was so unique and interesting that Frank Castle fans will stand out everywhere.

ComicBook.com has caught up The punisher showrunner and executive producer Steve Lightfoot to talk about everything about Castle, including a particular shootout.

While the season was the scene of several thorny battles – like banging on the faces of Russian gangsters with dumbbells – a scene stood out in particular. Castle (Jon Bernthal) and Amy Bendix (Giorgia Whigham) finally found John Pilgrim (Josh Stewart) in a room in local hotel.

Once Castle arrived at the hotel, chaos broke out shortly afterwards in a beautifully filmed scene featuring Castle and Pilgrim shooting at each other blindly through adjacent rooms. And to top it off, they launched a classic fight between the elevator and the Netflix corridor at the end.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Lightfoot mentioned that the battle at the hotel was always intended to portray the two different lives that Pilgrim experienced. One piece represents essentially the first future of the Pilgrim family, while the other piece represents the sins of a past life.

"When we developed the scripts, we came to the idea that, in a way, Pilgrim had stolen the piece from the guy the door next doorthere was a lot of drugs and liquor, and the idea was that these two pieces became the conflicting parts of the pilgrim, "thought Lightfoot. then there was the one where he was now the father who just wanted to go home. "

"It was almost the Jekyll Room and the Hyde Room," Lightfoot continues. "Again, it looks like Frank, we are keeping this theme, so when we had the scenario, it made sense that their fight was going on there, to see these two guys in both theaters."

Lightfoot then went on to explain in detail how the scene was a living theme: Castle and Pilgrim are about to look like the same person, how they all continue to live their murderous lives because of their family.

"It was always this idea of ​​reflecting, then having fun with the practicality, you are in this room, I'm in this room, how can we trade, how can we change it," says Lightfoot. "So we wrote a version in the scripts, which, if you like, was themed by theme and where we brought these guys, and then we let the stunt coordinator and the guys lose the thread."

The producer made it clear that he had built the hotel rooms as a backdrop so he could do what he wanted on the stage, leaving the stunt crew free to get to the ultimate shoot.

"We had built these two pieces assetsSo, since we were not in a real hotel, we had carte blanche to do what we wanted with this location, "reveals Lightfoot. So we wrote a version in the script, and then I told the stuntmen, come with that. And then come back, show me what you have. And it came from them, refined it from there. We were shooting this sequence in the elevator, we were shooting this for quite a long time, it was a real work of love. "
